A Mental Health Monitoring Tool built using AI, NLP and Sentiment Analysis
The Science Behind Sentivisor
Sentivisor keeps track of what you read online.
Analyses content based on its emotional impact.
Gives you daily insights and feedback of the emotional effects your brain had to cope with.
Every word we read shapes our thoughts and emotions.
Words shape our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and actions.
“Words and emotions seem to be interconnected in the brain. Every time we have an emotional experience, the neural regions that process the semantics of words also get involved.”*
*SatPute, A. B., & Lindquist, K. A. (2021). At the Neural Intersection Between Language and Emotion. Affective Science, 2(2), 207-220.
Negative words make us feel tense, nervous, and even fearful.
Studies show that negative word patterns result in the release of negative hormones and neurotransmitters in the brain.
While positive words stimulate the brain’s frontal lobes, negative words trigger increased activity in the amygdala, which is the fear center of the brain.
Words can literally change our brain.
According to Andrew Newberg, M.D. and Mark Robert Waldman, writers of the book ‘Words Can Change Your Brain’.
Positive words strengthen areas in the brain that promote cognitive functioning and, stimulate the motivational centers of the brain.
A single negative word can have an opposite effect, increasing the activity in our amygdala, the part of the brain that reacts to perceived danger and pain. When activated, our amygdala releases stress-producing hormones which make it hard to think, affecting both our own performance and the performance of others.
We live in a hyper-connected world
The availability of information at our fingertips might seem like a good thing, but it has a downside.

Opening a news portal to see local and world events can bring out strong emotions and stressors.
Our brains are hardwired to immediately direct our attention to negative events, threatening events, fearful events.
Constant exposure to news, social media, emails, and entertainment creates cognitive overload, mentally draining us.

We have a natural tendency
to be intrigued by negative information.
And there’s one thing about social media. The more we click on something, even if it’s negative, the more it’s going to feed us. The algorithms do work that way.

Talking about data…
An average person today can process as much as
74 gigabytes (GB) of data
a day.
Every year it is about
5% more
than the previous year.
Only 500 years ago, 74 GB of information would be what a highly educated person consumed
in a lifetime
through books and stories.
All that data we are feeding ourselves on a daily basis…
are mostly negative news.
Reading more and more negative news and information has a detrimental effect on mental health. And with time, it can evolve into…

Emotional Exhaustion
A switch to doomscrolling mode. Feeding the brain with frustrating, negative, sad, or bad news. Does it sound familiar?
By doing that, the brain releases stress hormones throughout the body, further contributing to the experience of emotional exhaustion.
Physical symptoms include:
- Fatigue
- Headaches
- Lack of appetite
- Nausea or upset stomach
- Poor sleep
- Sore muscles or muscle tension
Emotional symptoms include:
- Anxiety
- Apathy
- Depression
- Feeling hopeless
- Feeling powerless or trapped
- Irritability
- Lack of focus or forgetfulness
- Lack of motivation
- Negative thinking
- Nervousness
- Tearfulness
Performance symptoms include:
- Difficulty completing daily tasks for responsibilities
- Failing to meet deadlines
- Increased absences
- Isolation or avoidance
- Lower workplace commitment
- Performing work duties more slowly
Our body often interprets stress as a threat to survival.
How does stress impact wellbeing?
Hormonal changes:
When we’re stressed, our bodies produce a hormone called cortisol, which in turn raises our body temperature and heart rate to gear us up to face a threat.
Panicky stories spur the release of cascades of glucocorticoid (cortisol). This deregulates your immune system and inhibits the release of growth hormones. In other words, your body finds itself in a state of chronic stress.
Emotional changes:
The other potential side-effects include fear, aggression, sadness, tunnel-vision and desensitisation. You may begin to feel unwell and irritable, You may struggle to concentrate or lack motivation. You can feel trapped or stuck.
You may not even know what is causing these feelings. You can end up emotionally exhausted.
Physical changes:
High glucocorticoid levels cause impaired digestion, lack of growth (cell, hair, bone), nervousness and susceptibility to infections.
Cortisol levels fluctuate naturally throughout the day, but when they remain elevated, it’s harder to fall asleep and stay asleep. It’s that “tired but wired” feeling.
Stress can cause…
Mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and burnout.
The inability to rest and rejuvenate affects emotional wellbeing, creating a sense of hopelessness and despair.
Impact on cognitive functions including memory issues, lack of focus and concentration, and even increased risk of accidents.
Mood disturbances, including irritability, emotional instability, and mood swings.

Sentivisor Mental Health Monitoring Tool
How does it work?
Sentivisor uses advanced AI and sentiment analysis to transform your daily text interactions into powerful insights for mental health monitoring.
What is Sentiment Analysis?
Sentiment analysis is an NLP (Natural Language Processing) technique used to determine and extract the sentiments and opinions expressed in the text data.
It all started with VADER lexicon
VADER (Valence Aware Dictionary and sEntiment Reasoner) is a lexicon and rule-based sentiment analysis tool that is specifically attuned to sentiments expressed in social media. It is fully open-sourced under the MIT License.
VADER’s sentiment analysis gives the polarity of a text (or words) on a scale of -1 to +1. It can classify a content:
- negative,
- neutral,
- or positive.
Sentivisor is based on a boosted and improved Sentiment Analysis method.
Sentivisor was built using a different labeling method.
SENTIVISOR’s sentiment analysis classifies text into 6 categories:
joy, fear, surprise, sadness, disgust, and anger.
Data-Driven Mental Health Monitoring
Sentivisor is a tool that utilizes the text data from various sources such as blog posts, news articles, and social media, to evaluate daily data consumption.
The tool analyzes every word and classifies them into six categories of emotions, namely joy, fear, surprise, sadness, disgust, and anger.
Based on these classifications, Sentivisor creates a diagram that represents the emotional impacts of the text data. This diagram can be used as a monitoring tool to keep track of one’s wellbeing and raise awareness of potential mental health disorders.
